TSS Mentorship program

In the third session of the Fall 2021 TSS Mentorship program, Dr. Beverly Ibeh from the USC Kortschak Center for Learning and Creativity discussed time management strategies for students.

The application period for Fall 2023 ended on August 14th, 2023.

Mentorship pairings have been assigned.

Stay tuned for more opportunities in Fall 2024!

The TSS Mentorship Program pairs new TSS members with returning merit scholars and supports mentees in successfully navigating their first year at USC while exploring what it means to be a Trojan Scholar.

Throughout the course of the fall semester, mentors and mentees participate in weekly workshops, where mentors share their experiences with their mentees and discuss topics such as course scheduling, club involvements, and long-term career planning. The program also hosts guest speaker events throughout the semester, providing mentors and mentees with the opportunity to network with distinguished faculty and TSS alumni. Mentor-mentee groups are encouraged to connect outside of these scheduled events as well.

More than 60 mentors and 160 mentees participated in the Fall 2022 program.

Who can be a mentee?

Any new TSS member is welcome to apply as a mentee!

Why should I become a mentee?

  • Community. There are TSS events throughout the school year, but the TSS mentorship program is a unique opportunity to meet with the same group consistently throughout the semester. We know arriving to a place with thousands of new people can be daunting, so we hope you can forge some of your first friendships through the program.

  • Guidance. Mentors have been in your shoes, and will offer you their perspective and lessons on being a student at USC.

  • Knowledge. You will gain insight into Trojan Scholar perks, course scheduling, club involvements, long-term career planning, and more (who knows, maybe a scoop on the best study and eating spots in the area).

  • Networking. The program will host guest speaker events throughout the semester, providing mentors and mentees with the opportunity to network with distinguished faculty and TSS alumni.

Who can be a mentor?

Any TSS member of sophomore, junior or senior standing in Fall 2022 is welcome to apply as a mentor! *No previous mentorship or leadership experience is required. All mentors will be provided mentoring training and resources, and are also encouraged to reach out for support if needed.

Why should I become a mentor?

We also aim for this program to be a fulfilling and valuable experience for our mentors!

  • Community. The program is a great opportunity to get involved with the TSS community and meet new students!

  • Leadership. Providing guidance and support to mentees can help you strengthen your leadership skills.

  • Impact. Many of our mentors have participated in the program previously as a mentee and found it helpful during the college transition. By sharing their knowledge and experiences, mentors can create a similar impact on their mentees.

  • Networking. The program will host guest speaker events throughout the semester, providing mentors and mentees with the opportunity to network with distinguished faculty and TSS alumni.

What are the program expectations?

As a key part of the program, weekly workshops are mandatory for all mentors and mentees. While highly encouraged, the program’s guest speaker events will be optional. Mentors and mentees are expected to share a form of contact information in order to communicate with one another.
